Hiccup hadn't been able to sleep for days. For some unknown reason, he would lie tossing and turning until sunrise. He was too awake at night to go to sleep, however, he was absolutely tired during the day.
He was too tired to help his dad around the village. Too tired to train the new recruits and their own dragons. And sadly, even too tired to ride Toothless.
So he lay there, in the grass, trying his best to take a nap.
He almost managed to drift off to sleep, until two familair voices began to holler:
"Careful coming down the rocks fatass! You might trip!" Tuffnut yelled.
This was followed by the sound of Ruff's boot connecting with her brother's face and a loud thud.
"Oops!" Ruff laughed.
Hiccup groaned and thought about moving before they could see him, but was too tired to move.
He opened his eyes to find Ruffnut hovering over him, arms behind her back and a sweet smile plastered on her face.
Trying his best to be polite, he weakly smiled back, "Can I help you?"
Her reply was interrupted, however, when a loud battle cry was heared from above. Out of know where, Tuffnut popped in and tackled his sister. Immediately, they started to beat the crap out of each other and yell loudly.
Toothless peeked his head up to find what was causing all the racket. At the sight of the twins, on the other side of the lake, he went back to sleep, regarding the fight as a normality.
Hiccup covered his ears with his hands and, once again, tried to fall asleep, to no avail of course. The twins were much too loud to ignore and Hiccup badly needed to nap.
"OH YOU DID NOT JUST GO THERE!"
Hiccup turned to his side. Then to the other. Then on to his pained back once more. At last, Hiccup could no longer take it.
"SHUT UP!" He cried.
Both twins paused from strangling each other to look at Hiccup who was still on the ground.
"Please! I just want to go to sleep!" He uncovered his ears and opened his eyes to see the two letting go of each other. Hiccup closed his eyes again but had to reopen them when he heared the rustling of feet coming near him.
The twins made their way toward Hiccup, occasionally shoving eachother, before sitting down next to him.
"Why?" Tuffnut asked Hiccup, sitting with crossed legs to his right. "What do you mean why? I'm tired!" Hiccup snapped. "You haven't been sleeping at all, have you?" Hiccup turned to his left to look up at Ruffnut. "That explains those dark circles under your eyes." She cocked her head, studying Hiccup's face.
"No. I haven't. So will you please let me sleep." Hiccup stared up at the sky, watching the clouds go by. He dug his finger's deeper into the grass, enjoying the tickling sensation against his skin.
Then a new sensation set in as a pair of strong arms wrapped around his waist, pulling him close to Tuffnut.
"What are you doing?" Hiccup turned his head to look at Tuff.
"Napping with you." Tuffnut smiled.
"I'm tired too." Ruffnut proclaimed. She too, lied down, and wrapped her arms around Hiccup torso.
"Then go home and sleep." Tuffnut hugged the smaller boy possessively.
"Screw you." She rebuttled and rested her cheek on Hiccup head.
At first Hiccup thought that there would be no way on Earth, he could sleep in this positon. But he was convinced otherwise when Ruffnut began to soothingly stroke his brown hair, while Tuffnut hummed a soft lullabye in his ear.
After several days of lonely, sleepless nights....there, in the twin's arms...Hiccup found peace.
